Sculpture Finishes Explained: Patina, Mirror and Plated Gold
The same model can read completely different by finish. Patina, mirror polish, brushed texture and gold plating — what each one does.
Finish changes a sculpture as much as shape does, so we treat it as a design decision, not a detail.
Patina is the colored oxide layer on bronze. Greens, browns and black tones are applied by hand, so weather and water bring out a living surface over time.
Mirror polishing is done on stainless steel in progressively finer stages until the surface reflects like glass. It suits landmark pieces in modern plazas.
Brushed texture keeps the metal tone but softens reflections — a common pick for lobbies and hotels where glare would be distracting.
Plating adds a gold or chrome skin for high-end signage pieces. We seal plated surfaces so the sheen survives outdoor climates.
