Measure height, width and depth separately
A height alone is not enough to describe a sculpture. Record the maximum width and depth, projecting elements and the proposed base footprint. State whether the quoted height includes a pedestal. A slim vertical form and a broad horizontal piece can have very different spatial impact at the same height.
Test the view at the actual location
Photograph the site from the main approach and from nearby seating or pathways. Add a familiar scale reference or dimensions to the image. A temporary outline or simple mock-up can help judge proportion. Compare the view in daytime and under the intended lighting rather than choosing size from a product photograph alone.
Leave room for people and maintenance
Map circulation routes, nearby doors, planting and the access needed for cleaning or servicing lights and water features. Consider whether visitors can touch or climb the work and flag those conditions in the brief. Clearances and public-space requirements must follow the actual site design and applicable local requirements.
Check the route from truck to final position
Measure the loading area, doorway openings, corners, lift dimensions and any overhead restrictions. Establish who will unload and move the packed sculpture. Ask for shipping dimensions before booking transport, since a protective crate is larger than the artwork. Large sections may need a planned lifting or assembly sequence.
Send a compact site pack
Include the preferred design, height × width × depth, pedestal dimensions, photographs, a marked location plan, installation environment and delivery city. Mark unknown dimensions as estimates.
