Plan the journey before fixing the final size
Share the destination city or port, delivery address if available, access photographs and any unloading restrictions. A sculpture may fit its finished location but not the doorway, loading bay or vehicle route. For larger works, discuss whether transport in sections is practical before design approval, because joints affect fabrication and site assembly.
Specify protection and record the condition
Packing should suit the sculpture geometry, surface and transport route. Confirm how vulnerable projections and finished surfaces will be supported and protected. Request the finished-piece and packing photographs, crate identification and the packed dimensions and weights for the freight booking. Any special packing or destination requirements should be agreed with the forwarder.
Clarify the delivery boundary in writing
Agree who books freight, arranges insurance, handles clearance and pays destination or last-mile charges. Confirm the delivery point and which documents will be provided for the specific shipment. Port arrival and delivery to an installation site are different scopes. Do not assume unloading, lifting or installation is included unless the order expressly says so.
Prepare the base and lifting arrangements locally
Coordinate the agreed sculpture connection details with the local installer and, where required, a qualified engineer. Foundation design, bearing capacity, wind or seismic conditions and lifting plans depend on the site. Confirm access for equipment and who supplies anchors, lifting gear and labor. A generic drawing cannot establish suitability for every location.
Receive, inspect and keep the records
Arrange a suitable receiving team before arrival. Record the condition of the crate and piece, keep delivery paperwork and document any visible damage promptly. Follow the notification procedure in the freight and order documents. Retain the approved drawings, connection details and care instructions for the property team after installation.
